First hike in many years

  • Jun. 16th, 2009 at 1:21 PM

back from the wilderness of m'sia! it felt like time has turned back 20 years as the civilisation in that part of m'sia resembles those of singapore in teh 1980s. exciting and enjoyable nevertheless. the amount of distance i climbed/walked/trekked had made up for my lack of exercise for the past few months (i thought so at least!) Our adventure started right from the train station:
  1. when we panicked due to some miscommunication causing one of our friends to end up at tanjong pagar mrt station instead of the railway station and he only realised it about 10mins before departure. we tried all our means to 'stall' the train (yes we attempted to), ignoring the scoldings and threatenings by the station master and ticket conductors and every other staff of KTM. strolled slowly to get our passports checked and literally crawled to get our bags checked, just to make sure our friend made it there. all our efforts paid, as he ran passed us, and the passport checks, without realising (how fast he ran!), got onto the wrong cabin, but still manage to board the train. Finally reached!!!!
  2. next adventure was the night walk itself - the discovery of many night creatures and this other bird-like creature - all resulting to many of us wondering if the guide deliberately planted these creatures at such strategic places so that he could 'discover' them as we walked through.
  3. hiking and canopy walk - scaling up the seemingly dangerous suspension bridges which were only secured using ropes and ladders - we pondered if they were safe but we went ahead, not forgetting rapid shootings and visiting the habitat of the orang aslis
  4. sight-seeing and swimming/wadding at this stream with mini rapids - we tried to do our own spa (since the one in the resort seemed too expensive for the quality), scrubbing of our feet and toes, washing our face and hair with the water - we insisted that the mineral-riched stream would help to enrich our skin!
  5. discovering the bats cave, scaling through the dark and dirty and slippery cave, not forgetting dangerous, and an embarrasing moment (only the bwbs know). bats flying pass as i had to 'abseil' down a slight slope of a few metres (highly-thrilling experience though) - an experience which i would say it's for 'once in a lifetime!'
  6. we had to end our trip with our last adventure with the train again! bought our burgers, had to hurry the seller to double up his speed in cooking, rushed to the train station 5mins before departure just to realise that the train would be 20 mins later than scheduled time. as we were about to start our meal, a train came and we panicked and dispersed (all in less than 5 seconds) to the platform, only to realise it was the wrong train. we went back to the tables to finish our burgers. thankfully we finished and washed our hands clean, the train came and everyone at the canteen shouted 'this is your train' (we must have looked 100% singaporean for them to deduce tt) and the station master called for us to board. in another 5 seconds, we dispersed and rushed up the train. we were determined not to miss the train. everyone in the station was so amused by our antics that they were laughing all the way as we embarked.

this marks the end of another adventure with the hallmates.

Char's house warming and bday

  • Sep. 7th, 2008 at 12:24 AM

It's been almost a year since we last gathered. The faces have changed, some were busy, others were not in town, nevertheless, the joy remained.

Yvonne emailed me these photos which really tickled me.
Angry cat due to a grooming session which went wrong.

To those who are born today, x (insert the number) years ago, Happy Birthday!
